Psychotherapy

Building trust and a comfortable working relationship is the first step towards helping you grow through psychotherapy. Early on, you and your clinician create a partnership, and together identify your areas of concern, develop goals and make a plan for treatment that addresses your needs. As the work gets underway, the focus shifts to making effective and durable changes in how you think, feel, and act.

Our clinicians use their extensive training and experience to address emotional issues and stressors including, but not limited to:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Panic attacks

  • Relationship and intimacy issues

  • Medical and health concerns

  • Grief and loss

  • Work and career issues

  • ADHD / ADD

  • PTSD

  • Life transitions

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

This is the “classic” form of therapy, which strives to knit together the past and present to craft a better future. Our clinicians will work hard to develop a deep understanding of how you came to be the way you are. We believe in our patients, and know that even if things are not working out well, you have been trying throughout to solve your problems given what you know. We try to help clarify how things got the way they are and work together to find alternative strategies that help you get better results and reduce emotional discomfort. This form of therapy is used for a wide variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, life and relationship problems, as well as personal growth and wellness.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that highlights the important role of thoughts, beliefs (cognitions), and behaviors. It’s a “nuts and bolts” kind of therapy, using education and homework to help you become aware of distorted thought patterns.  Change is made by altering your internal dialog and guiding you carefully out of your comfort zone so that you discover what it’s like to do things differently. CBT is very helpful for mild to moderate depression, and all kinds of anxiety disorders, such as social anxiety, panic attacks, chronic worrying, and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Couples and Family Therapy

Our deepest and most important relationships are complex and challenging for everyone. It’s easy to get stuck in patterns that don’t solve the problems, and even inadvertently make them more entrenched. In couples and family therapy, we help everyone involved to develop a better understanding of themselves and their intentions, work on communication and listening skills, conflict resolution and managing expectations, to get things “back to good.”
